History of Oracle DataBase

Ø  Founding of oracle
             1977 – Larry Ellison, Bob Miner , ED Oates – Started (RSI) In 1983 it became Oracle System Corporation later Oracle Corporation.

Ø  Commercial RDBMS
                        1979 – Oracle V2 SQL based RDBMS

Ø  Potable Version
                        1983 – Oracle V3 -1st RDBMS to run on Mainframes, Supercomputers and pcs. Portable  to multiple Platforms. written in C

Ø  Enhancement of Concurrency Control data distribution and Scalability
         v4 - Read Consistency, v5-distributed database
         v6 –Row Locking,backup,recovery,scalability-Introduced first version of PL/SQL

Ø  PL/SQL  Stored Program Units
            - 1992 Oracle 7 –  PL/SQL Procedures and Triggers.

Ø  Objects and Partitioning
             - 1997 Oracle 8 – Objects relational database, Partitioning of Large tables

Ø  Internet Computing
                 -1999 Oracle 8i – Supports Internet Protocols, Internet Computing Database to be deployed in a multi tier environment

Ø  Oracle Real Application Cluster(RAC)
            2001 – Oracle 9i - Multiple instances access the database simultaneously

Ø  Grid Computing
            - 2003 Oracle 10g

Ø  Manageability, diagnosability, and, availability
            - 2007 – Oracle 11g – Performance –Read Only Tables –Restricts the write operation Invisible Indexes
